Trevor came home from work a little early and we packed up the crazies and headed downtown to go to Maggiano's for dinner. Before we left Trevor unveiled his birthday creation for me. For those of you reading from Cville that have had the honor of having some of Mama T. H. 's Ally Pally cake that is what he was going for. It didn't exactly turn out. I think it may have partly been my fault. I am one of those people that doesn't really write recipes word for word, as long as it makes sense to me that is really all I'm worried about. Ellis took one look at it and said it was "yucky." I have actually only tried the recipe once in CO and it didn't work for me either. My problem had something to do with the altitude but Trevor's was just the recipe mixup. We ended up blowing out candles on the cake anyway and then having a milkshake from Chick-fil-a for birthday dessert.
Before Ellis' nap I told him that when he woke up we were going to go to a restraunt for dinner to celebrate my birthday. His eyes lit up and he said "a hot dog restraunt?" I said "no," but he said "Mommy you like hot dogs?" "I do Ellis, but not for my birthday." On the way to Maggiano's he told us again that he was going to have a hot dog. I really don't know where this came from. We really don't eat that many hot dogs. He ended up having spaghetti and tons of little pieces of blue cheese from the salad that Trevor and I had. A few times he told Trevor and I that we had to talk with our quiet voices......mind you the child does not have a quiet voice. For those of you that know my brother Michael, they share the same volume level......LOUD! All in all we were pretty impressed with how well it went with the two of them.
Thanks to all of you that called, sent email and cards. It was a great birthday!

Happy birthday! And that picture of you with your kiddos is adorable...hope it was a good day!
sound like fun..the cake looks pretty good to me. I am impressed! Glad it was a good day. So when is the first big trip to the zoo? Can't wait to hear.
Happy Birthday (one day late)! That's a sweet picture of you and the kids. I think Alaire always looks like a model with her serious face. :)
Have Trevor tell you about the time he made "chocolate leather" in the microwave. He added too much water to a recipe if I remember correctly. It turned out like choc. jello jigglers. He was so disappointed. I know he was disappointed in that cake, too. You'll have to try it again and add more flour to it for the altitude. Kelly would probably know.
It was fun I-Chatting with you last night! Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Cassie! I'm glad that you had a good one. :)
Happy Birthday! I really like this picture of you all. Yeah, Ellie does not have a quiet voice either. She is so loud and there are times I definetly need a quiet break. I'm glad Maggiano's went well. I love that salad with the blue cheese. Is it the spinach one? Yummy!
