By dinner time the night before his birthday I think he had it figured out that tomorrow was going to be a pretty big day. We had a little art project before bed and made him a birthday crown. This is something my mom has done with more kids than you could imagine and in every picture you can tell that they think "wow, it's MY birthday" For Ellis the hat was just that, wow. It had a trash truck, and football, a football helmet, and a train along with happy birthday written along the back and a pair of twos on each end. He wore his hat most of the morning and even wore it to his class at church.
Like I said he knew it was a big day so he started it early. We got up at 6:30 and it really was a day like no other because not only was Trevor up before 7 but he was also eating breakfast!! The cinnamon rolls were a hit.
One of my favorite pictures of my boys was from Ellis' first birthday. They were sitting on the porch swing in Topeka. I thought I would continue the tradition and I think I captured another keeper.
We just happened to catch Trevor in the hallway at church as we were leaving and his meeting had been cancelled so we got to go to birthday lunch with dad as a surprise. When we asked Ellis where he wanted to go for lunch he just came right out with "taco bell" We didn't even know he knew how to say that nor really what taco bell actually was but apparently at 2 you know more than most people think. So taco bell it was....my dad said we should enjoy it while we can soon enough it will be Outback or something a little more pricey.
During nap time I made the cake and when he woke up I let him help me ice it.....actually all he did was stick his finger in it and eat the icing.
As you can probably tell from the mustache the manicotti was a hit. He ate it only until he caught a glance of the sprinkle cake. We actually blew out candle twice (by his request) and he sang happy birthday to himself all day long. Apparently the teachers in his class at church had been singing to him that morning.
He really liked his cake, which he continues to call cookies but he still only eats the sprinkles and icing.
Wammy Pappy, Sarah, and Michael sent him a movie, apron, and chef's hat. We loved the movie and he has wanted to make eggs today with his apron on.
I found the popcorn holder at Target when I got his bike and I was able to save that because I knew it would go great with the whole movie theme that my parents gift had. This morning as I emptied the dishwasher he saw the popcorn thing and got it out and started singing a song about movies and popcorn.
Turns out this birthday just keeps giving. He had his well child Dr. appt. todady (still skinny, tall and has a huge head) and he got two shots but Oma and Opa's gift got here today durning nap time so that made up for all of the sticks. He saw it when he came down the steps and smiled really big and said birthday present. We tried to wait for daddy to come home but it just wasn't possible. It was killing him.
He loves his spiderman tent and tunnel. He stands in the tent and jumps and says "I touch ceiling"
When the big kid got home today he enjoyed the gift as well. I just wasn't sure he would be able to get out of the tunnel as well as Ellis did.
Ellis wasn't the only want getting gifts today. Right before nap time today a little old man brought me flowers.....(of course they werent' from him) Trevor sent me a surprise. The picture doesn't do them justice. He said he just doesn't know how I get up at all hours durning the night to feed Alaire and then I'm still able to take care of them all day. I realized what he meant when the alarm in our bedroom started going off after dinner tonight. I had asked him at about 2:30 in the morning when I had just finished feeding Alaire to set it for 6:15 so I could make sure to feed her in the morning and be able to get everyone ready and out the door on time for Ellis' Dr. appt. today. When the alarm went off tonight he was perplexed, I, knowing what happened, reminded him that he set it for me but apparently for the wrong time. He laughed and said he had no reccolection of me even asking and didn't know what I was talking about.

I am still grinning from ear to ear! Your discription is so funny. Glad to see that the birthday hat tradition is being carried on in other parts of the US...can't believe that you remembered that. Maybe you can make pilgrim hats for Thanksgiving this year too...:) Happy birthday Ellis. Looks like great fun! Wish I could have been athere...but your blog is the next best thing.
