Hike to the Trailhead

The kids and I had planned to go the library story time last Tuesday but wouldn't you know that the one day we choose to go they don't have it. Thankfully I checked the website before we made our way there and we changed our plans to spend the day in Estes Park and the Rocky Mt. National Park.

Trevor and I had taken them to try "The Pool" hike once before but it was so cold and windy that we turned around. This time it was gorgeous so I thought we would give it another shot.

I think we would have benifited from snow shoes but there was a small part of the trail that was packed down and that is where we walked.

According to the map the trailhead is at the end of this road so I drove to the end, parked, and we started out. Unfortunately after we hiked the 1.7 miles I realized that we had actually just hiked from the overflow lot to the actual trailhead. This portion of the road is closed for the winter.

The kids didn't mind and had fun so I guess that is all that matters. I guess we will just have to go back in the summer and try one more time to get our patch! :)

Look how wide that "trail" is. I don't know why it didn't occur to me that we were actually on a road!

After our hike we made our way down to Estes for the usual ice cream stop and then we got home just in time for dinner with dad.
