Who knew they aren't just in the movies?
For those of you reading from Colorado you may want to just stop here. This post will not amuse you in any way shape of form; it will likely just enhance my stupidity in your eyes but if it gives you a good laugh go right ahead and read.
The last few days have been incredibly windy here. (Remember we lived in KS for a while so I know what windy is!) At one point today I looked out the window to make sure our street light wasn’t going to take a tumble onto the house and all I could see was a mountain of tumbleweeds. Ellis and I had seen a few of them a few days ago and attempted to kick them out of the yard but our efforts were futile so we soon gave up.
Today we thought we would give it another attempt between lunch and Word World. (That gave us a good half hour, but believe me we got no where fast!)
My grandfather (Peep) had a basset hound once that he named Tumbleweed, T.W. for short. In my younger years the name really didn’t make much sense to me but now I’m thinking that name was quite near perfection for that dog. You see Peepaw’s dogs are wonderfully behaved (which is much more than we can say for my mom’s dog Ella). Peep’s dogs always come when they are called and actually never really leave his side. I think Ellis and I could say that same about our run-in with real tumbleweed as well. No matter how many times we kicked them away the wind would turn and they would come right back to rest at our feet.
I did notice that none of our neighbors really seem to care about this tumbleweed problem. I guess you just leave them and they disperse themselves. I’m just worried about the dreadful HOA getting on us again for this “astonishing lapse of judgement on our part”……but that’s a whole ‘nother story!

I wan to hear the other story about HOA.
You must inform your readers that TW was a big old 'basket hound' that didn't move too fast and he was a lot older that our little Ella. She is turning on on Valentine's Day. But I will give it to you...she is a hand full! But we love her...especailly when she is snuggled up with us sleeping soundly.
Those tumble weeds are huge! I am amazed! Just like the real out west ones from the movies.
I have fond memories of tumbleweeds, thanks to my Mom. When I came home for Christmas my Freshman year, it was the first time home since Ozark Bible College classes started in the middle of August! MY twin sister, Sharon, and I didn't have a car that year and being over 700 miles from home made it impossible to visit on weekends. When we walked into our bedroom that first night, each of us had a Tumbleweed Christmas Tree on our desks! Mom had sprayed them with snow and had little red glass balls hanging on its branches. We were enchanted with such a thoughtful gift. They even came with presents under them! Each of us got a hairdryer and a new flannel nightgown (for those Christmas morning photos).
